Why I Do This

When I was six years old, I remember being asked if I knew why I was here. I took the question to mean if I knew why I was born. My response was “yes….to be a healer.” As the years passed, I never had any doubt about the truth of those words. Until college. I was in the pre-med program and hated it. It was a very difficult time. I never imagined any future for myself other than becoming a doctor but how could I do something for the rest of my life that I hated? That’s when I went to a close friend of the family for some guidance. It was she who introduced me to the word, “naturopathy.” I went to my school library for any information and found only the mention of two schools in the Pacific Northwest. Eventually, I visited Southwest College and was interviewed. That was it. I was inspired again. I had the peace of knowing where to put my focus and energy. Naturopathic medicine fits me. It has common sense, science, humanity, tradition, creativity, efficiency, strength and flexibility. Naturopathy shows the way for people for become the best version of themselves, at least physically. It can re-introduce individuals to their bodies and enable an independence from prescription medications. I’ve had my license to practice since 2000 and I feel so lucky and proud to be able to offer this opportunity to people. It’s wonderful.
