What Is Naturopathy?

Naturopathic medicine is the integration of conventional medical science with ancient knowledge and traditions. It’s the best of both worlds.
Naturopathic medicine is licensed and regulated by a State Board in fifteen U.S. states and Canada. To be a naturopathic medical doctor (NMD) means that one has a degree from a four-year undergraduate program including certain prerequisites. Then one attends an accredited naturopathic medical school and completes all of the required hours of clinical rotations. Finally, a series of Board Exams must be passed before applying for a naturopathic medical license. NMDs maintain that license with thirty hours of continuing medical education annually. Some NMDs have a DEA license, enabling them to order prescription medications for patients. NMDs may also order any lab, radiologic tests or other diagnostic tests to help with assessing their patients’ condition.
